Catholic World News : Lay movements must accept authority, Pope notes

Catholic World News says that the Holy Father has a message for lay groups.

In a message to the leaders of new lay movements, Pope Benedict XVI (bionews) has saluted the groups for their “missionary commitment, for your increasing formative efforts among Christian families, and for the promotion of vocations to the priestly ministry and to consecrated life.” At the same time, the Holy Father strongly cautioned that the new movements have a duty to accept the hierarchical authority of the Church. [emphasis added]

In other words, it’s great that the laity wants to be involved – it’s our JOB to be involved in the spread of the Gospel! But we need to accept that the Church is not a democracy, and that we are not in charge. Period.
