Abuse of the Unborn Will Result in Excommunication

Catholic World News is reporting that embryonic stem cell research will result in excommunication, just as abortion does.

Let’s hope that Catholics pick up on this and realize that abuse of the unborn – whether it’s abortion, contraception, or research – is intrinsically wrong.

And let’s hope that our bishops actually enforce the rules. It is not an act of charity to allow someone to remain in mortal sin because you don’t want to hurt their feelings. It’s depraved indifference! People need to understand when they are sinning, and I can tell you from personal experience, it’s a horrible feeling when you suddenly realize you’ve been in a state of mortal sin. And just because no one told you doesn’t make you feel better.

What is not important is how a person reacts to you when you tell him, bishops. What is important is that you strive to save his soul! Jesus didn’t tell sinners that it was okay to do stuff. He required them to repent!

UPDATE: Jeff at Curt Jester has some thoughts on this, as well as why Catholic lawmakers in the U.S. might not be held accountable.
